About the Project
The centerpiece of this project is a four-volume series, Civil War 150, published by The Library of America for the sesquicentennial of the U.S. Civil War. The books contain letters, diaries, speeches, newspaper accounts, poems, songs, military reports, and memoirs. There are hundreds of firsthand accounts from both the North and South beginning from November 1860 - Spring 1865. This 5 panel exhibition presents the Civi War through some of these documents. The Gilder Lehrman Institute partnered with the Library of American to create this exhibit with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Read more about these organizations.
