Best practice: Direct students to the Kanopy platform from the library's A-to-Z Database page. From there, they can search for the film.
Kanopy is a streaming film database containing a catalog of over 30,000 documentaries, classic, and independent films. Notable collections include the Criterion Collection, Kino Larber Films, the Great Courses series, selected PBS series, and many other reputable suppliers of quality films.
Arkansas Tech University has access to 20-25 films on demand available to all current students, faculty, and staff. Search by title or browse the full list of currently available Kanopy films by putting your cursor in the Kanopy search bar and pressing enter.
Films not currently accessible in Kanopy must be requested by the user and approved by the Library.
To do this, search for a title in Kanopy. When you reach the "No Results" page, scroll down to find suggested films you can request for your library. Click on the film you would like to request and fill out your information. If the film is required for a class, please note this in the message box.
It depends on a variety of factors, but in general, when the film is required for an online class, we will make every effort to purchase the film license through Kanopy. Each license lasts for one year. After which, the film must be requested and purchased again for future classes.
Because the costs associated with streaming films are usually much higher than a physical copy, the library will generally recommend the physical DVD copy.
